We support teenage girls that have been abused and now left to fend for themselves.  Without adequate food, shelter, medical assistance, or a means of sustaining a living, these girls are in dire need.  Through our depth of onsite and community outreach activities, we help reshape the future for these girls and supporting communities of the Kigoma region.

Living Soul is a powerhouse of action and resources to help change the narrative when it comes to the treatment and support of teenage girls, not only affecting their futures, but also the overall interaction and expansion in the concepts of supporting one another, regardless of sex and to cherrish the value of motherhood and raising children to also in tern have a future.

Depth of Programs serving and supporting the West Tanzanian Region

The Rescue House

Because pregnant girls are immediately expelled from school and often rejected and discarded from their homes and community,  there are in general few to none  positive options for them to excel.  Others come to LSF with no formal education and unable to read and write. At our rescue house, it is our  joy to begin the process of healing, teaching and comfort needed so they flourish as they are given these opportunities.

School & General Education

Reading, Writing, Mathematics and ESL (English as a Second Language). LSF provides individual and group teaching sessions designed to meet the needs of each girl, regardless of their level of education.  Because pregnant girls are immediately removed from school, there are no options for them to continue in their studies.  Others come to LSF with no education, and it is a joy to begin the process and see them flourish as they are given opportunities

Core Values Education

What are core values and how do they affect our daily living?  LSF explores and teaches the importance of valuing human life, the right to be safe, the right to education and more.  As they begin to understand each other and how they fit into their community, they are also given the opportunity to pass on what they’ve learned in a variety of settings

Spiritual Education & Trauma Counseling

At its core, LSF exists because of Jesus, who sees every person as worthy of love, regardless of their status in life and community.  Girls learn biblical values, through stories and real-life, practical illustrations. LSF girls come to us because of a variety of traumatic situations, we look at each girl individually, assess needs and provide necessary counseling through a variety of avenues.

Micro business Training

Microbusiness training provides these young mothers with opportunities to provide financial independence for themselves and their children.  A variety of trades and skills are introduced, and then assessments are made to see where they have the greatest chance of success. These opportunities and training programs  exist onsite.

Motherhood Development Courses

LSF residents come to us with little or no comprehension of pregnancy, birth or parenting.  Training is provided for every step of their journey, relieving them of fears and anxiety for the unknown.  As their children are born, they receive instruction in how to care for their newborn, physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Birthing each mother receives medical care and regular in hospital mother and well baby exams throughout their pregnancy. Delivery are mostly delivered in hospital on the rare  occasion a child comes early the staff and young mother have been prepared in length and emergency birth supplies are on hand.

Nutrition & Diet

This is a crucial area in the program. Because of extreme poverty, food often has low nutritional value. Protein is rare and many times it is hard to find. There is education on proper nutrition while pregnant, while nursing and on what to feed their babies and children through their development stages. False information is dispelled. Each resident receives 3 healthy balanced daily portions that include fresh vegetables, protein and along with traditional meals and chai.

Parenting

Due to poverty and more, many parents leave their homes and children to find seasonal crop and field work. Children are often left to raise themselves and each other. We equip these young mothers with parenting knowledge on the importance of being available, attentive, loving, and a consistent source of guidance for their children. They learn the importance of being a consistent guidance and the importance of setting boundaries so when it is time their children will be ready to face the world independently with confidence, compassion for others and mentor/model figures in their community.

Child Development

This course is so fun as these young mothers learn about the stages of their pregnancy and beyond. Generally, most families have never been taught on development stages. They learn for the first time that their child can hear their voice and that she/he can feel their emotions. They gain full knowledge of their child’s development stages so that they can bond and nurture their child in a positive and supportive way even before they are born.

Onsite Farm.

Supports the facility to live off of the land, reduce running expenses and acts as a catalyst for the Agriculture programs

Arts & Crafts

We love the arts as it is an expression of one's thoughts. We know art can be healing when some experiences are simply too painful for words. Some may suffer from trauma, speaking about experiences can be very difficult and painful. We have seen that through art and music we can dramatically help a work through their traumatic experiences by communicating and expressing themselves through artistic mediums. In addition, these teachings give practical creative skills to help them in their futures should they use these art and crafts skills to use through microbusiness.

24 Hour Emergency Youth & Parent Counseling Hotline

Youth need a safe place to discuss personal issues. With little parent involvement and schools over crowded. These young adults are left to guide their own lives, during a very sensitive time Adolescence. Living Soul has been the first to offer schools and families assistance. 24 Hour Hotline flyers are posted in community areas and in school offering our assistance at any time. We love and value community, youth and their families and we privately help guide them when they are in need. All staff is trained in trauma, family and youth counseling.

Offsite Programs

We teach core values to bring about change in the treatment of Tanzanian youth.   These core values help reduce child pregnancies, child marriage and gender bias, with the goal of keeping girls in schools and being a catalyst towards ending child marriage and gender violence.

Education local schools, Communities and Government Agencies

Arts & Crafts

Although still in the dream stage, our desire is to provide artistic skills using a variety of mediums to create items that can be sold locally, in our Coffee Café and in gift shops.  Native dolls made from paper and handmade greeting cards, as well as crocheted items are on the drawing board.

Welding

Welding is a wonderful skill that can offer many opportunities for work, from window bars, to gates, to artwork.

Future Cultural Arts - Traditional Music and Dance

Like many places around the world, traditional native music and dance are being lost as first world technology creeps in.  We desire to preserve and celebrate Tanzanian arts through dance, singing and music classes, taught and performed in the traditional way.
